Description:

Advent - "the coming" - refers to the four-week period of preparation for Jesus' arrival on Christmas Day and the expectation of His return. Advent begins on Sunday closest to November 30 and lasts until December 24. Advent is a season for prayer, waiting, and hoping.

The Advent wreath is the traditional Christmas centerpiece. Many people mark this holy season by lighting candles on each of Advent's four Sundays. Three of the candles are purple (or blue), encouraging us to pray and serve others with love in order to pave the way for Jesus. The third Sunday of Advent has a rose-colored candle. This hue represents our delight as the birth of Jesus approaches.
