Story & Symbolism:
Born to aristocracy towards the end of the 12th century, she married Henry, Duke of Silesia, at an early age (now Poland). Via her persuasion and personal efforts, numerous monastic institutions were set up in Silesia for both men and women. Several hospitals were likewise established, one for lepers. During power struggles, she personally was a great force in establishing stability in the surrounding regions. She was unable to avoid a pitched war between the armies of two of her sons, one of whom was unhappy with the division of estates Henry had made between them, to her great sorrow.
