Story & Symbolism: It is stated that at age 60, Saint Rita was praying in a Church before an image of Christ when unexpectedly a little wound appeared on her forehead, seemingly a thorn from the crown around Christ’s head had loosened and penetrated her flesh. Because of that wound, the other sisters did not want to get in touch with Rita and unfortunately was exiled to a cell below the Monastery where she would live out the rest of her days. At her death, it is said that from this wound came the most amazing scent of rose, so strong that the whole city could smell it. St. Rita, along with St. Jude, is known for being a saint of impossible causes. Following her death, she was buried at the basilica of Cascia and was later discovered to be incorrupt. Her body can be found today in the Saint Rita shrine at Cascia.
