Story & Symbolism: Teresa of Ávila, born Teresa Sánchez de Cepeda y Ahumada, also called Saint Teresa of Jesus, was a Spanish noblewoman who felt called to convent life in the Catholic Church.

She died in 1582, was canonized in 1622, and was named the first woman Doctor of the Church in 1970.

Saint Teresa of Avila is recognized today as the patroness of those suffering from headaches or migraines. Her feast day is October 15th.
