Story & Symbolism:
St. Margaret was the only child of Claude and Philiberte Lamyn Alacoque and was born in 1647 in France. Margaret has always had a strong devotion to the Blessed Sacrament, preferring stillness to traditional childish games. She began rigorous corporal mortification after receiving her first communion at the age of nine. She kept doing this until she was confined to her bed for four years due to rheumatic sickness. Margaret's health restored to normal almost immediately after she made a vow to the Blessed Virgin Mary to devote her life to convent life. Margaret changed her baptismal name to Mary in honor of this kindness.
