Story & Symbolism:
Angela was affected immensely by her pious parents' teachings and example, and was taught how to pray the Rosary at a young age. She was frequently seen praying in the local church. During the month of May, a humble altar was created in their home in honor of the Virgin Mary, where the family would recite the Rosary and pay special attention to Our Lady. She applied to the Discalced Carmelites in Santa Cruz when she was 19 years old, but was turned down due to her poor health. Instead, she began caring for needy cholera patients, as advised by Fr Torres, who was swiftly spreading among the poor.
