Story & Symbolism:
Emily de Rodat, also known as Marie Guillemette (Wilhelmina) Emilie de Rodat, was a nun, virgin, mystic, and the founder of the Sisters of the Holy Family of Villefranche. She was born into a noble family in the southern French town of Rodez. Rodat rented her own building and opened a free school for females in May 1816, with the help of the Abbé Marty. Marty "helped her to widen the emphasis of this new society" by writing a rule based on the Rule of St. Augustine. With the help of 100 pupils and eight other sisters, she was able to purchase the house at the Maison Saint-Cyr, which was about to close. Due to "the uncompromising aspect of her nature," she was prone to disagreements with even her supporters, such as Abbé Marty, though she reacted respectfully to her critics. Few people realized she was a "mystic with incredible healing abilities.".
