Around December 1531, the Virgin Mary supposedly appeared to an urban Mexican in the last few apparitions. A venerated portrait on a robe in the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Mexico City. This basilica has been the most visited Catholic pilgrimage site in the world and the third most visited holy site in the world. The Virgin of Guadalupe is also remembered as patroness of Mexico and of the Continental Americas. Native Americans often venerate her on the basis of commitment to America's conversion.
