Story Behind the Product

Alice was born in Shaerbeck, near Brussels. At the age of seven, she joined a Cistercian monastery called Camera Sanctae Mariae, where she lived for the rest of her life. The Cistercian group was influenced by its spirit of modesty. At an early age, however, she contracted leprosy and had to be isolated.

The illness caused severe pain to Alice, and ultimately she became paralyzed and blind. Alice's greatest comfort came from receiving the Holy Eucharist, although she was not permitted to drink from the cup because of the danger of contagion. The Lord appeared to her, however, with the promise that it was appropriate to obtain under one species. Known for vision and ecstasy, she died in 1250. Devotion to her was authorized by Pope Pius X in 1907.
