Story & Symbolism: 

St. Catherine was the child of Ulpho, Prince of Nericia, and Saint Bridget of Sweden. She counseled expectant mothers who had experienced a miscarriage or a pregnancy-related sickness, following her mother's example of loving and guiding others. After her mother passed away in 1373, Catherine went back to Sweden and took over as abbess of the convent where her mother had founded the Bridgettine Order.

Today, Saint Catherine of Sweden is recognized as the patron saint of women who have miscarried. March 22 is the day of her feast.
