Story and Symbolism

John Baptist de La Salle's life was governed by complete devotion to what he saw as God's will for him. In 1950, he was named patron of school teachers by Pope Pius XII for his efforts to improve school instruction. John had everything to go for him as a young Frenchman of the 17th century: academic bent, good looks, noble family history, wealth, refined upbringing.
