Story & Symbolism: Saint Nicholas of Myra, also known as Nicholas of Bari, was an early Christian bishop of Greek descent from the maritime city of Myra in Asia Minor during the time of the Roman Empire. Because of the many miracles attributed to his intercession, he is also known as Nicholas the Wonderworker.

Nicholas was sent to live in a monastery and, at the age of 17, became one of the youngest priests ever. Before long, his charity and generosity became known throughout the land. Nicholas had dedicated his life to serving God and in the early part of the fourth century was made Bishop of Myra. It was said that he was not just able to nurse sick children back to health; he could raise them from the dead.

He died in 342 and is recognized today as the protector and patron of all children - sick or healthy. His feast day is December 6th.
