Story Behind the Product

About Paulist Press:

Paulist Press is a publishing house founded by the Paulist Fathers, a community of missionary priests established in 1858 by Father Isaac Hecker. Hecker’s vision was to spread the Gospel and the rich traditions of American Catholicism, particularly through printed materials. His first major initiative, the Catholic World magazine, aimed to provide an intellectual space for Catholic readers, surpassing even secular publications in quality. As the Paulists sought to reach a broader audience, they produced pamphlets and children's publications, most notably The Young Catholic in 1870, which quickly became a success.

The organization’s commitment to the printed word grew, leading to the establishment of the Columbus Press in 1881, later renamed Paulist Press in 1913. By the 1950s, Paulist Press had expanded significantly, becoming the largest Catholic publisher and distributor worldwide by 1966. During this time, the Press also pioneered initiatives like Catholic Library Services and contributed to the educational landscape with significant theological publications following the Second Vatican Council.

Today, Paulist Press continues its mission to bridge faith and culture through books, educational programs, and materials that support spiritual growth, promote interfaith dialogue, and foster reconciliation. Its extensive catalog includes works in theology, scripture, prayer, and spirituality, with a focus on creating quality, thought-provoking content for both Catholics and people of all faith traditions. The Press remains a vital resource for religious education and scholarship worldwide.
